St. Louis Fans ‘Pumped’ After Defeating Detroit

from Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch,
A couple hundred fans were awaiting the Blues, and as the team entered the hotel lobby the crowd began chanting the names of players, coaches and management.
“When we got off the bus, one of the employees said, ‘There’s a lot of people in here,’” Blues defenseman Erik Johnson said. “It was awesome. Obviously we won two big games, but it seemed like we won something a lot more with the fans doing something like that.”
Entering the lobby to the chant of “J-D! J-D!”, Blues President John Davidson said he was overwhelmed. “It was like being part of the Olympics,” Davidson said. “It was an emotional experience for us. That was totally unexpected.”
Unexpected, too, for a pair of Detroit fans who found themselves in the middle of the fray.
“Two guys got out of a cab behind us and they had Red Wings jerseys on,” Davidson said. “They were about to walk through, and Andy Murray said, ‘Excuse me, do you guys have a lot of life insurance?’”

@ Primus - here is what hockey fans see when they read your comments “waah waaah wah, why us, waah waah wah, Gary Bettmen hates us, wah waah waah we’re the Red Wings so if anyone is ever injured the game should be canceled”
really I think i’ve reached my limit with the constant whining from most of you Wings fans, you make excuses for everything. Suck it up, it’s hockey and players get hurt, I bet there were more than 5 Defenceman out partying while they were in Sweden….

Greg, if you don’t like reading our comments, then don’t read our comments.
It’s just as easy for me to not pay attention to your worthless sniping.

Yeah, ignore Greg, he’s been around ‘tarding it up the last few weeks.
Nobody’s whining, the Blues were definitely the better team in each game, no sane Wings fan would deny that… just saying it’s a little absurd how pumped up you guys get just to beat Detroit in two games that will (likely) prove to be meaningless.
Reminds me of how Michigan State football fans are about beating Michigan (they could go 1-11 and if the 1 was against Michigan they’d be thrilled with the season)...

The problem is, as a hockey fan i enjoy reading all these posts. Not just ones about my favorite hockey team, or my new favorite rival like some of you guys…
It’s when i always see excuses being made everytime the wings lose that i will post. Primis made the same comment on another article about 5 defenseman…its like he’s just copying and pasting where the wings are mentioned.
(Side note - do any of you regulars know if there is a mobile version of Kuklas for the blackberry? I’m on the road a lot but enjoy keep up to date…Thanks in advance)

Paul told me in an email there would be a mobile version back in August. I don’t think it is up yet because I haven’t seen it for the main page yet but sometimes when I go to A2Y it is formatted for mobile.
As for the comments, my perception is that a lot of your comments are aimed at upsetting Wings fans. I don’t think you add a lot to the discussion when you limit yourself to just going after the Wings fan comments.

The mobile version is being worked on and sorry for the delay.
As many of you know, income from ads is way down but picking up the last month or so, so finances do have something to do with the delay.

A lot more? He almost said it. Well, we Know what he was thinking.
Easy Eric. It’s far too early for that kind of talk. Besides, it’s only 2 games and these are the Red Wings we’re talking about. They will be right there at the end of the season when there is a lot more to play for, not just seeming that way.

Awesome. The door’s right there. Don’t let it hit you on the way out. Doubt you’ll be missed by anyone, Greg…
It speaks volumes to me that the Blues win these two games and their fans are delirious. A lot of us knew when these games popped up on the schedule that the Wings would drop both of them, and that they won’t matter a lick for the other 80 games of the season.
If Andy Murray has even 1/4 a brain he should be showing his guys tapes of that VAN series last year and reminding them about the word “sweep” and that there is still a very, very long ways for them to go. Like staying healthy for a whole year. Or playing for a full season period, not just half a season.
The path to the Cup doesn’t go through Stockholm though—it’ll go through the actual NHL arenas, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a mindless idiot.
Personally, I’m relieved it’s over just like I was relieved when the Winter Classic at Wrigley was over—because now the Wings don’t have to do them anymore, they can be someone else’s problem.

Pretty sure Blues’ fans are just happy to see their team play well, and aren’t about to map out a parade route. Just something about seeing their team healthy for a change…
Not a Blues fan, but I know what Greg was saying. Unlike him though, I find it more amusing than irritating.

I don’t understand this. You KNEW they were going to lose these two games? I thnk I understand what Greg is saying too. It all sounds like sour grapes. And, if for some odd reason the Wings miss the playoffs by 4 points, I think these two games would matter very much. It must be nice for a team to be so skilled and have their season mapped out for them, they can afford to throw away two games against a division rival.

Glad to know that the Blues are so proud of being able to win two games from an opponent that had to play the majority of each game with only 5 defensemen.
