from The Good, The Bad And The Duthie,
My beef isn’t how having our game directly against Habs-Bruins this affects our ratings. We’ll do fine. There are enough Phili and Ovechkin fans out there to pay the bills.
My problem is, you shouldn’t have to make a choice. The passionate hockey fans of this country deserve to see both games. Instead, they are forced to make a choice, then flick over and catch a few seconds of the other game during commercials.
more and James, passionate fans in any country deserved to see both games.

Matt, I was able to pick up the Caps game on CI vis Directv and in HD too, even though the HD feed was not on the channel guide.

Good article. My biggest beef is now that we’re getting out of the first round, the league will schedule games so that we’ll end up with nights where we don’t even have hockey even though there are multiple series going on. Why not just do each series every other night? Why did Washington/Philly start so late, and then have to play back-to-back, for instance?

Nathan, unless I’m mistaken the reason for the late start of the Washington/Philly series was due to poor planning by the gurus of the Verizon Center. They probably didn’t think the Caps would make the playoffs and scheduled other events far in advance. Because Washington made it in due to a hot streak at the end, they threw a wrench into the schedule. I don’t particularly blame them for scheduling in advance, though I wish contingencies had been made.
Frankly, the exclusivity of Versus is just as annoying as the blackouts on Versus for “local” games, which for some reason was why I couldn’t watch any Rangers/Devils games. If it wasn’t for Comcast (I can’t believe I’m thanking Comcast), I’d have missed out on Washington/Philly. Though the Comcast crew does feature Bill Clement, making me wish Gary Thorne would show up for a “reunion tour” of sorts.

Paul,
AGREED! The Versus exclusivity blacked out TSN in the states and we got stuck with a 5-0 whitewash instead of an exciting 4-2 comeback win for the Caps. Thanks Versus, and Gary Bettman, for keeping us in the dark!
