Stars In Need Of Backup Goaltender & Sign Woywitka

The new Stars GM said the upside of getting a goalie like Jonas Gustavsson was worth the gamble. Yes, he would have prefered that Gustavsson made his decision earlier. Yes, the Stars would have been in on talks for other goalies (they were high on Clemmensen) had Gustavsson just made up his mind earlier..
Yes, he is both frustrated and disappointed, but he said he believes the Stars will solve the problem.
He said they have done their homework on several goalies who could be backups, and now have to work the negotiations with the goalie they like best. Again, the team is on a budget, so the negotiations could take a few days. Some goalies are waiting for bigger offers and the Stars want to get a goalie at the right price.

The Dallas Stars have signed defenceman Jeff Woywitka to a two-year contract worth $1.3 million ($600,000 for the 2009-10 season, and $700,000 for 2010-11).
“We are pleased to welcome Jeff Woywitka to the Stars organization,” said Stars General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk. “He’s gained some solid experience the last few years with St. Louis and we feel he brings valuable depth and stability to our defensive corps.”
