LECAVALIER, NABOKOV AND ERAT NAMED NHL ‘THREE STARS’ OF THE WEEK
FIRST STAR—VINCENT LECAVALIER, C, TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING
Lecavalier earned the NHL’s First Star award for the second consecutive week, leading the League in scoring with eight points (four goals, four assists) in just two games. Lecavalier tied a career high with five points (three goals, two assists) in a 6-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes Nov. 14, also matching franchise records for points in a period (2-2—4 in the second period) and single-game plus-minus (+5). He notched three points (one goal, two assists) in a 5-2 victory over the Washington Capitals Nov. 16, setting a franchise mark by tallying multiple points in his seventh consecutive game (6-13—19). Lecavalier has moved into first place in the NHL scoring race with 32 points (13 goals, 19 assists), two ahead of Detroit’s Henrik Zetterberg (14-16—30) and Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby (11-19—30). The Lightning (10-8-1, 21 points) carry a five-game winning streak into tonight’s contest at Atlanta.
SECOND STAR—EVGENI NABOKOV, G, SAN JOSE SHARKS
Nabokov posted a 3-0-1 record, 0.96 goals-against average, .959 save percentage and two shutouts in four games as the Sharks (11-7-3, 25 points) moved into first place in the Pacific Division. Nabokov made 25 saves as San Jose blanked the Phoenix Coyotes 5-0 Nov. 12, recorded 26 stops in a 4-3 shootout victory over the Dallas Stars Nov. 14, posted his third shutout of the season in a 6-0 victory over Phoenix Nov. 15 and turned aside 28 of 29 shots in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Anaheim Ducks Nov. 17. Nabokov has appeared in each of the Sharks’ 21 games this season, posting an 11-7-3 record with a 2.02 goals-against average, .915 save percentage and three shutouts.
THIRD STAR—MARTIN ERAT, RW, NASHVILLE PREDATORS
Erat tallied two game-winning goals in three games and had six points overall (three goals, three assists) as the Predators earned five of six available points. Erat set a single-game career high with four points (2-2—4), including the game-winning goal, in a 4-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets Nov. 12 and notched the overtime winner and one assist in a 5-4 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks Nov. 15. Erat ranks third among Nashville scorers with 17 points (five goals, 12 assists) in 19 games. He has scored three game-winning goals and one shootout decider in Nashville’s past five victories.
