NEW YORK (January 25, 2010)—Ottawa Senators goaltender Brian Elliott, Colorado Avalanche goaltender Craig Anderson and Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby have been named the NHL ‘Three Stars’ for the week ending Jan. 24.
FIRST STAR—BRIAN ELLIOTT, G, OTTAWA SENATORS
Elliott won each of his four starts last week, posting a 1.25 goals-against average and .957 save percentage, as the Senators (28-21-4) climbed to fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings. Elliott recorded 22 saves in a 5-1 victory over the Boston Bruins Jan. 18 and turned aside 29 of 30 shots in a 4-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks Jan. 19, highlighted by a spectacular stick save against Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa to preserve a 3-1 lead in the third period. He went on to make 27 saves in a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues Jan. 21 and recorded his second win over Bruins at TD Garden in five days, stopping 32 shots in a 2-1 decision on Jan. 23. Anderson improved to 26-11-5 with a 2.46 goals-against average and .923 save percentage in 43 appearances.
THIRD STAR—SIDNEY CROSBY, C, PITTSBURGH PENGUINS
Crosby notched eight points (three goals, five assists) in three games, helping the Penguins (32-20-1) record victories over a pair of Atlantic Division foes. He tied a career high with six points (two goals, four assists) in a 6-4 victory over the New York Islanders Jan. 19, tallied one goal in a 6-3 loss to the Washington Capitals Jan. 21 and recorded one assist in a 2-1 win at Philadelphia Jan. 24—his 53rd point in 31 regular-season games against the Flyers (24-29—53).
