Stars Trade For Auld

FRISCO, Tex. – Dallas Stars General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk announced today that the club has acquired goaltender Alex Auld from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for San Jose’s sixth-round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft (previously acquired).

“Alex is a proven NHL veteran with a track record of success in this league,” said Nieuwendyk. “He has size and ability, and we expect him to be an excellent goaltender for us.”

The Sens can’t be seriously considering rolling with LeClaire with a supreme rookie backup… gotta think a Heatley trade for a legit netminder is going to happen at some point.

Giggy in ANH?

Hey Paul, now what happens to Biron? Dallas was the only place I thought would sign him, but looks like that’s not the case.

Nope, this is exactly the tandem the Sens want, and they’ll stick with it.

Philip, I have no idea about Biron.  Although I would expect the Blackhawks to improve their goaltending postition, but it may be hard with their recent signings.

Interesting that the Stars decided to give up an asset for their backup, rather than sign one UFA. And is Auld really the guy who can push Turco ala Mike Smith a couple of years back? I don’t think so…
