Stars Were A Tired Team

from Red Fisher of the Montreal Gazette,

Let’s cut the Stars some slack here. We’re talking about a team that defeated the Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks in the first round and beat San Jose, a team favoured by many to win it all this season, in the conference semifinals.

The Stars were a tired team in their opener against the Red Wings. Fewer than five minutes into the game, they were short two skaters when Brian Rafalski opened the scoring. Johan Franzen’s 12th goal of the playoffs also was on the power play. So was Tomas Holmstrom’s goal early in the second, a goal that should not have been allowed because he clearly interfered with Turco after establishing squatter’s rights in the crease.

There was nothing complicated or mysterious about the Red Wings taking a 3-0 lead before this game was 27 minutes old: tired teams take penalties.

More importantly, it’s not as if anyone expected a Red Wings team with the NHL’s best regular-season record to roll over for the visiting Stars.

Oh good gravy—listening to the Panel on TSN, and reading this article; is there possibly anyone else on the Planet that wants to give DAL a pass on game 1?

How many days did DAL have off, 3 full days, as I recall.

Wonder what excuse they will have after tonight?

One is also left to wonder when the MSM will realize that, perhaps, DET is playing exceptional hockey?

BTW:  See the Wings GDT in the Forum, seems like Coach Tippett is more than a little worried about the DET team speed.  If Tip thought the Stars problem was “tired legs”, do you think he would be shuffling the “D” pairings?

I’m sick and tired of this. Has the MSM forgotten that the rule is not longer, and hasn’t been for quite some time, that a player can’t be in the blue paint?

Look, what was Turco going to do there? He was all the way to the right side of his crease in the position he need to be in. Did he need to cut the angle down more, and Homer being there prevented it? Bull. Move him and Homer both out another foot, and the song remains the same. Turco can’t see either way, and that was the key to the play.

Here’s the thing, for me.
The Stars were tired.  So What?  It was their own fault for not being able to close out a game for 120 minutes.
So now they’re owed a Pass?
Please.
Stop whining.  They are professional athletes who are paid hundreds of thousands, if not millions, to handle this stuff.
