Still No Parise Contract Talks

from Tom Gulitti of Fire & Ice,

Parise has been working out and skating at Prudential Center since the season ended and plans to head home to Minnesota at the end of next week. He is slated to become a restricted free agent on July 1. The first pivotal date, however, is June 15 or 48 hours after the completion of the Stanley Cup Finals (whichever comes later). That is the deadline for teams to file for team-elected arbitration.

The longer this goes without a start to contract negotiations, the more it looks like the Devils will use that deadline for team-elected arbitration as a leverage point. After missing all but one of the last 70 games of the 2010-11 season and having Nov. 2 surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, Parise would enter any arbitration hearing (if it got to that point) from a weakened position – though the player’s last two seasons factor into in determining the arbitration award.
