Strudwick Signs With Oilers

via 630 CHED,

630 CHED Sports has learned that the Edmonton Oilers have made a minor free agent splash by signing hard-nosed, stay-at-home defenseman Jason Strudwick.

Strudwick, who spent the last 3 seasons with the New York Rangers, is an Edmonton native and lives here in the off season. He has accumulated 678 penalty minutes in 488 games and will replace some of the toughness and physical edge the team lost in dealing Matt Greene and Raffi Torres.

Terms of the deal are not yet known. The Oilers are expected to officially announce the signing later today.

That’s not really true.  He played in Switzerland in 06-07 and signed with the Rangers after his season was over.  It was after the deadline so he was ineligible to dress for the playoffs.

Strudwick’s a great team guy and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Rangers one day bring him back in a non-playing capacity.  He took a couple of the young guys under his wing last year, at one point even trying to teach Dubinsky how to fight (it didn’t help).

I think he was trying to teach Dubinsky to keep his yapper shut.  In that respect, it helped.
