Stuck In The Middle

from Helene Elliott of the LA Times,

Seated in the sunny lobby of a beachfront hotel in Santa Monica, his feet in flip-flops and his long fingers skimming the keys of a cellphone, Evgeni Malkin looked more like a bellboy than a budding hockey superstar whose hurried departure from his Russian homeland echoed the plot of a Cold War spy novel.
Barely 20 years old, a gangly 6 feet 3 and 178 pounds, Malkin stands at the center of a dispute that has strained the tense relations between Russian and North American hockey executives.

This is a very good article.  The bottom line seems to run off into the spy novel theory and lends one to believe that Russians hoard its valuable treasures and is not willing to part with them.  That’s all good and well but it also lends one to think that Russia is not a free Nation like they want everyone to believe.  This is a case for Russia to take Communism as a choice of Government not a Democratic free Nation.

Malkin is a free man according to Russia’s Government but yet he is hoisted above all as a National Treasure.  Come on, Malkin is not going back and that’s that.  Russia needs to get their heads and butts wired on the same circuit and get with the program or stop whining to everyone you think is listening.  God I am getting sick of this whole Malkin thing.

I should note as an L.A. Times subscriber that this is the first time the NHL has graced the front page of the sports section since the Pronger trade.
