Submissive Ducks

from Helene Elliott of the LA Times,

What’s embarrassing is that the Ducks have not sustained any energy or fire for more than a few minutes here and there, that they’ve been submissive and sloppy when the situation called for assertiveness and precision.

Other than a brief display of the grinding game that has been the foundation of their success and allowed them to tie the score, 2-2, late in the second period, they haven’t put up a fight, figuratively or literally, in these first two games.

They haven’t peppered Dallas goaltender Marty Turco with shots, fought for rebounds, or used their muscle to do more than slam the door to the penalty box.

Helene doesn’t pull any bunches.  OUCH!!  Watched that game last night, a fine post-script to the Wings win.

Ducks looked bad.  They sure were laying the body to everyone they could - but that was about all they did right; and on a couple of occassions, they got out of defensive position because of it.  Never got the thought they might actually win the game—offensively challenged.

Stars are getting beat up—Star powerplay is freaking awesome.

Pronger’s pre-playoffs suspension definitely seems to have put a damper on his “enthusiasm” around the net. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him just stand there like a pylon like that before. It just breaks my heart to see the poor boy emasculated like this. wink

And the only “energy” the Ducks seem to generate comes at all the wrong times. They get outworked by the Stars and then they overreact and take a stupid penalty. It even happened to Niedermayer twice last night. Again, it just pains me to watch the Poultry self-destruct like this.  smile
