Sunday Observations

• Nashville fans, I understand your frustration but one thing to note:  It it time to look within the team itself.  The lack of offense being created by your first line should be questioned.  Will it change in games 3 & 4 when Trotz has the last line change, it can, but remember Babcock will most likely split up Zetterberg and Datsuyk if he has to.

More production from Arnott and Dumont is a must for this series to go past five games.

• Has the bad karma caught up with the Ducks?

• The Flyers need better goaltending to stay in the series with the Capitals.  Average play between the pipes isn’t going to cut it.

• Brodeur has been known to steal a game or two in his playoff career.  Well, tonight better be on of those times.

• If you live in the Eastern time zone, you may want to take a two hour nap today.  The Sharks/Flames game tonight is a must view.

• A victory tonight by the Bruins puts them right back into the series.  Remember, when you least expect them to win, they do.

Biron can be faulted for the fifth goal--he went down way too early. Otherwise, he wasn’t the reason the Flyers lost. He didn’t give the puck away, and it’s not his fault the team didn’t show up for the third period. He needs to play better, but so do eighteen other guys.

(sp) Paul - J.P. Dumont, not Dupont, I’m sure it’s just the lack of coffee this morning smile

Close HD, too much hockey, not enough sleep.  Thanks and corrected.

I think neidermeyer and teemu dragging their feet the entire 1 st part of the season screwed em over heres a question iam i the only one that thinks neidermeyer and teemu were selfish i jusy thought it was complete BS they left the team hanging on a SC defending season that would be like zetterburg and lidstrom dicking around for 20 games wondering if they are are going to retire (either you retire) or you don’t but you don’t leave your team hanging and lose valuable momentum to start a season.

No, a lot of people have some quibbles with the Ducks’ situation with Selanne and Niedermayer, although it was different for each of them.

Selanne was not under contract, so he had no obligation to Anaheim or anyone else, any more than (for example) Forsberg had to commit to a team.

Niedermayer was under contract, but was duly suspended according to the rules until he reported to the team and resumed playing.

Although both of them helped the Ducks with their salary cap situation by waiting to return, so whether it was a net positive or negative depends on viewpoint.

I overheard someone saying after the game that the NBC announcers said the crowd at Verizon Center was half-and-half. Is that true? Because that’s not even close to reality. There maybe were twice as many Flyers fans today, but that’s only because there were 15 at Friday’s game, and that includes me. I exaggerate, of course, but the place was again packed with Caps fans. Any suggestion it was not is nonsensical.

I agree about that first point, but Nashville fans can certainly be angry about more than one thing at a time.  Especially when offensive output is so sparse, to have the refs job the Preds out of the first goal of the game is a brutal blow.

Well, Brodeur didn’t steal this game, but they got the win anyway.
