via Helene Elliott and Chris Foster of the LA Times,
The Ducks are $900,000 below the salary cap and would have to make major moves to sign the 37-year-old.“He’s intrigued. They’re a good hockey team, and one of his criteria is that he wants to play for a good team,” said Sundin’s agent, J.P. Barry. “He hasn’t made any decisions at all yet.”

Well, over this offseason I’ve grown to moderately despise Sundin, and I’ve always held nothing but contempt for the Ducks… so this seems like a natural fit to me.
Sign Claude Lemieux out of retirement and we’ll be good to go!

I dont see it happening, and I also dont see many teams wanting to trade for Chris Kunitz and help the Ducks with their cap space problem, like some writer had mentioned recently.

Another reason this will not happen; travel. No way he signs up to subject his body to that when he has never experienced it, which is also why I don’t think Vancouver is a major contender for Sundin. Probably a good thing though.

As part of the Ducks fan minority on this site, I just don’t think signing Sundin is worth it. Losing Andy McDonald in order to re-sign Teemu Selanne and Scott Niedermayer made sense, but I don’t think it’s worth it to lose more young talent to get a questionable Sundin on the team. Plus, we are experiencing a lackluster performance from Brendan Morrison at the moment. He will likely break out of his slump soon, or so I hope.

Here’s hoping Burke is dumb enough to do this deal.
Maybe the Thrashers can benefit from a fire-sale twice in one year.

This speculation for Damien Cox of the Toronto Star,
The other piece of speculation out there is that Sundin, having earned close to $80 million in his career, might only be looking for a $2 million, pro-rated salary this season.

Ditto the comments about Sundin staying in the East. I still think Montreal or NYR are the likeliest destinations for Sundin, given that they both have a bit over a million in cap space left, and given that they have more trade-able assets, IMO, than the Ducks.
Chicago, if they can get rid of a goaltender, would seem likely to make a huge push.
This is all solely based on cap numbers and quality of the teams in question… so please let’s all understand I am just speculating for the sake of discussion!

He’d have to be, or he’s going to the Kings.

I don’t think this is likely at all—the Ducks can’t even afford to have Bobby Ryan on the big club at this point.
I guess the only thing that makes this scenario remotely plausible is that Anaheim’s fanbase has shown a quick forgiveness for part-season players last year; maybe that’s what Sundin is looking for?
