Suspension For Burish?

from Tim Sassone of Between The Circles at the Chicago Daily-Herald,
Flames coach Mike Keenan wants Adam Burish suspended for what happened near the end of Monday’s game in the altercation with Rene Bourque.
“I’m disappointed they weren’t given a match penalty for deliberate attempt to injure,” Keenan said. “A cross-check to the face where Burish broke his stick over his face. He suffered an injury because of that cross-check to the face. I have no idea how the referees could miss it. It was blatant.”
It’s beautiful how poor Mike claims his player is a victim when the Flames have been allowed to get away with one cross-check after another after whistles when goalie Miikka Kiprusoff makes a save.

It’s interesting, because I would say that something like that is borderline (in my opinion, you at least have to take a look at any time a guy breaks his stick crosschecking someone), but based on what have and haven’t gotten suspensions so far, who knows? I don’t think it’s more deserving than what Camalleri did or what Kostopoulos (Lomisarek?) attempted with his flying elbow, but I would say it’s as bad as what Lucic did, so who the hell knows?

I will be suprised if Burrish gets a suspension. If Cammalleri did not get one for the Martin Havlat headshot. Burrish shoudln’t get one here.
Until the league starts automatically handing out equal suspensions regardless of the player, time of the game, or lead in the game, these things are going to happen. Carcillo and Lucic got a game, Kunitz, Cammalleri and now Burrish will probably walk away.

The blow is clearly to Bourque’s upper arm/shoulder. I know hockey players are tough, but you’d expect a different reaction (more that simply raising his hand and looking at the ref) if the crosscheck was actually to his face.
