Sykora Back Home, Thinking Of Leaving The Penguins

Roman Jedlička and Dusan Volejníka at Nova Sport (not translated) report Petr Sykora feels it is in the best interest of both the Penguins and himself that they part ways. Sykora still wants to play in the NHL for 2-3 years but since Bylsma took over the team, he has witnessed his ice time diminish drastically.
He is still recovering from a broken right foot and won’t be 100% until mid-July.
Direct quote from Sykora (translated)- “It is possible i could stay in Piitsburgh, but I feel it is better for both the Penguins and me that I go to another NHL team.”
thanks to KK friend Roman for the pointer and translation.

LOL. The NHL on Nova Sport is terrible. Jedlicka is a pathetic announcer.

Makes sense for both parties. Gonchar and Letang will be the priorities to get re-signed since Go-go has already re-upped. Pens will need a cheaper replacement on the wing and Sykora will probably be over-valuing himself in terms of $$. They may lose a few goals in letting him go, but he was not much of a fore-checker, not to mention his inability to check…anyone.
I would be the first to thank him for his contributions to the team, but I agree, it is probably best if they cut ties.

Good luck to Sykora. I have to agree with him here. Whether it was his injury or his diminishing skills, he didn’t have a good year for the Pens. I thought he’d be headed to the KHL, but I hope he can get healthy and stick around in the NHL. The bigger question is - who will live in Jagr’s house?
