via Tampa Bay Lightning Twitter,
The Lightning are making a trade today. They’ll be getting a player and a draft pick in return.
added 3:31pm, from Damian Cristodero of Lightning Strikes,
The Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday picked up left wing Drew Miller and a third-round pick in next year’s draft in exchange for wing Evgeny Artyukhin.
added 4:57pm, Damain was just on The Bill Watters Show on 640am in Toronto and said the move clears up a little cap room for the Bolts. Tanguay still in the mix, although Damian has heard he has at least one offer for more money than what Tampa wants to pay.
Bolts may be offering a 1yr deal to Alex and it Damian feels it may be a good deal for him.

They have like 9 defencemen under contract so it’s not a huge surprise. It will probably be pretty small.

Weak.

Yeah, I forgot for a moment that Tampa Bay is run by incompetents. My bad.

Actually, this move isn’t bad. Sure, Arty’s huge physically, but I don’t know that he’s ever developed into the player they wanted. He’s also suspension-prone IIRC.
Drew Miller and a 3rd isnt a bad return IMO.

Blockbuster!! Not
I wanted something big, you know Lecavalier to Ottawa, then Heatley to San Jose and then Marleau to Tampa Bay with a few secondary players thrown in for good measure. Something convoluted like that. A real big time trade with some star power.

Did the ducks get hosed with this one? I think so, even at a 1 to 1 player trade they got less than they gave. Miller has more upside than (don’t make me spell his name). Also, the ducks really need consistent scoring which Miller would probably (eventually) provide more of than (Ivan the terrible). Still everyone wants a large Russian so they can pretend he’s Malkin or Ovechkin, so…
I’m not looking at this from the Tampa point of view because: who cares about tampa. The Panthers have little to no star power and they almost made the playoffs last year…what’s Tampa’s excuse?
