Tavares Just Wants To Play

from Damien Cox of the Toronto Star,
With all the buzz surrounding young guns like Steve Stamkos, Drew Doughty and Taylor Hall, existing off Broadway has meant less attention for Tavares, perhaps not an unwelcome development for a young man who has been under the microscope since he was granted “exceptional” early entry into the OHL in 2005.
“There’s more attention (with the Islanders) than people realize,” said Tavares, who wasn’t a Calder Trophy finalist in his rookie year but has a solid 53 goals in his first two seasons and six already this year.
“But there are days where I don’t get it as much compared to how much I got it in junior. I remember when I was first accepted into the OHL and how people took it negatively. I just wanted to play, and I was 14 years old. That’s when I first realized there were two sides to the coin.”
