Teams Interested In Kessel

from Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe,
“More than one team is very interested,’’ said the source.
General manager Peter Chiarelli didn’t offer any insight on a possible trade.
“I don’t comment on contract negotiations,’’ said Chiarelli. “But we really would like to get Phil in the mix. You don’t come across players like this very often. It’s hard to come by players with this skill. We believe there’s still a lot of growth to his game.’’
Wade Arnott, Kessel’s agent, declined to comment on a possible destination for the 36-goal scorer. Arnott, however, confirmed a virtual nonexistence of negotiations with the Bruins. Arnott said the Bruins made only one contract offer, which was quickly rejected, prior to the draft.

Kessel’s agent really blew this one…He is facing not getting paid this year and in two years when there is another strike he won’t get paid then either. He has no leverage at all. The Bruins don’t really need him at the moment and they don’t have to trade him either. They can wait until somone gives them a Lindros type offer or do nothing. It really don’t matter to the Bruins. If I was Kessel’s agent I would take whatever the B’s offer today.

It can’t be just money,right?
According to CapGeek, without Kessel, they’re about $2M over the salary cap…mostly because they have over $2M allocated to buyots (Murray, Schaefer & Eaves). So I’d say it’s probably a lot about the money.

Honestly, that makes me think that it’s not about money. If it was just about money, they wouldn’t have spent the way they did, going over the cap without even bothering to leave any room to sign him.
If it was about money, they’d negotiate, give him more than one offer and not sign enough people to make re-signing him virtually impossible.

I was referring to their desire to trade him. That part is all about the money. I agree that if they wanted to keep him, they would have left room for him.

I’m getting the feeling that the Bruins aren’t looking at Kessel as one of their cornerstones for the future. One offer to his agent since july? It looks like they’re waiting for the best offer to trade him.
I don’t get it. For the previous two seasons they really promoted him as a big part of the Bruins future. And he looks like he’s going to be a consistent 35-40 goal scorer. And those type of players are not that common.
I know that there were some motivation & conditioning problems (allegedly) with him in the past. But that doesn’t seem like much.
It can’t be just money, right? When Charlie Jacobs took over for his father he said that he wouldn’t be as cheap as his father (I’m paraphrasing of course).
Yeah ,okay,LOL!!!!
