from Greg Logan of Newsday,
The two-year marriage of inconvenience between Islanders general manager Garth Snow and coach Ted Nolan ended Monday. Irreconcilable differences over the direction of the franchise led to a mutual decision by Snow and Nolan, who met earlier Monday morning at Nassau Coliseum, to part ways.

He’s a great coach. Islander are going to be terrible this year. LA should grab this guy.

Hope it doesnt take him as long to find a new job as it did last time.
He is a good coach, if anything Snow is an incompetent GM.

Nobody doubts the guy can coach, but he’s clearly poison to any organization that takes him, because he can’t handle not having absolute power over everything. And that’s not enough to last in the NHL.

GMs hire their own coaches. Wang put this dysfunctional group together and now it is being torn apart (Smith, LaFontaine, Botha). If what Logan states is true, that some of the veteran players were tuning out Nolan, he refused to play the younger players when in lottery contention and started Dubie over DP out of spite then this was going to come to a head sooner rather than later. With guys like Tortorella and Burns looking for a coaching opportunity it seems like a decision that needed to be made, if not sooner. Nolan is great at motivating players into thinking it is us against the world, but does he always have to see enemies even in his own camp?
