When they asked Lil’ Gary to do this, he thought he was going to be opening a local supermarket and leaving with a bag of groceries. After ringing the bell, Lil’ Gary was heard to say, “Seems like a pretty messy place to sell groceries. I don’t even see shelves to put the stock on. You wouldn’t catch me running the NHL like this.”

After forcibly escorting the Commish from the building, the Stock Exchange security staff was heard to exclaim, “That’s the last time we let anyone in here on skates!”

The ringing of the bell is automated; the pushing of the button on stage is merely symbolic. Bettman couldn’t even get that right. He was late by at least the few seconds he stood there and did nothing. Kinda like his years in office....
