Checked the very readable blog that Adrian Dater writes for the Denver Post this morning and he’s there speculating that San Jose is eyeballing Ryan Smyth and that Jonathan Cheechoo could be coming the other way. Milan Hejduk also comes up as a possible target.
With Smyth’s salary ($7.25 million this year, $16.5 million the next three season) I just can’t see him in teal anytime soon. Hejduk at $4 million now and $4 million next season is even a big stretch. Anything’s possible, I suppose, but from what I’ve been hearing from the Sharks — and misdirection is common at this point in the season — they aren’t inclined to do anything that major.
