from pucksandbooks of On Frozen Blog,
With the past week as laboratory, it’s an apt time to broaden our lens a bit and remark on how fantastically hockey coverage is expanding and improving by virtue of a single social media application: Twitter.
The two big-on-the-calendar events of the past seven days, indeed of the entire hockey season—the NHL Draft and Wednesday’s start of free agency—were by virtue of this single communications tool blown wide open in insider access: every hockey fan with a hand-held suddenly had access to the real-time thoughts and experiences of the most gifted 18-year-old hockey talents on the planet, player agents, NHL free agent stars, leading media personalities, and of course bloggers.

Same here, never used twitter before FA day but I’ve found it to be a very useful tool. I spent most of FA day and a good part of day 2 away from my house and a computer, but instead of relying on friends to update me on what was going on, I was able to use my phone and go to twitter.com/darrendreger for most of the signings.
Between Dreger for all around NHL, Rob Rossi for Pens news, and Bob McKenzie for rumors, I’m all set.
Twitter as a social networking tool? Annoying as hell.
Twitter for sports news? Awesome.

It’s true… I can honestly say I had never been to a twitter site until FA day… that may make me lame but I really don’t care what others have to say about themselves, especially people I don’t know personally… on the other hand if this twitter stuff is about the world of hockey, then they’ve got me hook line and sinker :-D
I think we all love getting as much info as quickly as we can - twitter has certainly proven to be a great tool for that these past few days!
