via the Twitter of Bob McKenzie,
Chicago cannot finalize Kane, Toews, Keith contracts just yet because there is, for now, a “tagging” room issue. A move will need to be made

The problem is Primis, what team would basically take Campbell for nothing? I would think teams would want to move some salary if/when taking on Campbell’s high cap hit.

I agree. Heck, let’s take it further from Campbell. I think that almost any player the Hawks would try to move—even those with lots of on-ice value—the Hawks would have to send something else to sweeten the pot.
Maybe they can find someone who’d take Campbell, a first rounder, and a third rounder.
I’m just shooting the breeze here, total hypothetical—Campbell, a first rounder, and a third rounder to the Isles for one of the Isle’s goalies. A very steep price to pay, but who could give Chicago a better deal that would allow them to dump Campbell’s salary?
Perhaps I’m overestimating what it would take to lure someone into taking that contract. But I’m thinking if I were a GM with a lot of cap space, I’ve still got a half-decade of that $7 million hit for a guy that doesn’t play much defense… I need some serious compensation to bail the Hawks out from that signing.

Paul, I never said someone WOULD, I just was pointing out what another site (not hockeybuzz either) is saying. ![]()
NAS, NYI, and PHX each have well over $10m in cap space. The Isles are the only one of those teams that I could see considering it, like Nathan said. The Isles are playing well enough and who knows what Wang and Snow might consider if they think they can make the playoffs.
However, there’s one team with ample cap space that has a real need for a puck-moving d-man that could get away with being a defensive pylon that everyone is forgetting and overlooking… the Dallas Stars. They miss Zubov like crazy. Don’t think they wouldn’t consider plucking him off either waivers or re-entry waivers. They might even be a possible trade partner.
Campbell to Dallas, start the rumors now, not later.

The line that the Hawks wouldn’t need to make a big move to allow for this is complete bull. Simple math tells you that.
There’s another site reporting that the Hawks are ready to dump Campbell for basically nothing in return (such as lose him to waivers) if it comes down to it.
