From Liz Mullen at Sports Business Journal:
Eric Lindros, in his letter resigning from his position as NHL Players’ Association ombudsman last week, revealed a rift within the union staff and a deep problem between himself and Executive Director Paul Kelly, and raised questions over whether staff members conspired to undermine him and the ombudsman’s office itself, both internally and publicly.
“The efforts of a few have made it impossible for me to effectively carry out the duties of ombudsman,” Lindros said in the three-page letter to the 30 player representatives who make up the NHLPA executive board, the governing body of the union. SportsBusiness Journal obtained a copy of the letter.

Regardless of how well Lindros performed, the NHLPA needs an ombudsman who is independent of the executive director. Some of Kelly’s comments sound all too much like the old NHLPA, and the players need someone who will hold Kelly’s feet to the fire when necessary.

Lindros has had trouble getting along with others in every organization he has been in. While ombudsman is supposed to identify issues and problems, Eric seems to have just moved his whining to this new job and confused that with what his real job was, protecting players. Eric has always been about Eric. I am not sure he can see anything else.

Kukla’s Korner is always a free service for readers, but it costs some money to maintain. If you’re ever in a position to donate a few dollars to help out, we’d be very appreciative.

Obviously there are different opinions on this, but if the player’s executive committee supported Kelly in this fight, then they had the most information they could get and made their best decision.
I gather that Lindros was just not right for the job, and I wonder if he has psychological issues.
