The Other Nick In Detroit

from Karl Samuelson at NHL.com,

“I think Niklas Kronvall will continue to develop and be a strong offensive guy for us,” Babcock said. “With Brian Rafalski and Niklas Lidstrom, plus Kronvall, it gives us three real puck movers. Brett Lebda, Andreas Lilja and Chris Chelios can move the puck, but the other three are all guys you can count on offensively and are among the top scorers in the NHL on the back end. In today’s game you need offense from your defensemen.”

Kronvall is an exceptional skater with great hockey sense and those talents allow him to join the Red Wings rush as the fourth attacker and even step into the deep slot to one-time the puck. Some regard Kronvall as the next dominant European defensemen.

Stop saying nice things about Junior!

Maybe if no one pays attention to him he won’t get hurt anymore.  smile

Kitchenwitch, I had a talk with the folks at NHL.com today about that, and they are going by the name on his NHL contract, which is KronVall.

I seem to recall hearing/reading somewhere that this issue originated with a typo on his work visa or something like that. Or maybe the Anglicization of his name allows for either a v or w?

The correct spelling is Kronwall- they spelled it Kronvall on his work visa, which, I imagine is how that spelling wound up on the contract.  Obviously, the name on the visa has to match the name of the contract.

Another stroke of genius from the NHL- “we know the correct spelling of his name but we refuse to use it...”

It’s on his passport, too, which is a typo as his name is “Kronwall” in Sweden, but he’s kind of stuck with it in terms of other countries screwing it up.
