Unless you’re an A’s fan, you might have missed a brief mention of this in this morning’s print edition, but The Sporting News included Sharks defenseman Douglas Murray on its list of the Top 20 Smartest Athletes.
The Cornell-educated (he needs one credit to graduate) Murray finished at No. 16, behind only one other NHL player, fellow Ivy Leaguer George Parros, a Princeton grad in economics who finished No. 4 overall.
“You take it for what it is,” Murray said today. “It’s more of a resume` thing. It’s obviously fun.”
You’ll notice the information on Murray doesn’t even mention what is probably his greatest intellectual achievement: his role in the invention of the ubertap, that prized device that allows party-goers to fill multiple glasses of beer from a keg simultaneously.
