from Adrian Dater of the Denver Post at All Things Avs,
Don Meehan, the agent for former Avs goalie Jose Theodore and current left winger Ryan Smyth, is one of the good guys in the business....
Today, I spoke with him on the phone about the situation that went down with Theodore and the Avs....
As Meehan said, “Both sides were in a position to make the choices they made. And that’s what happened. I don’t think there’s anybody “at fault” here. It’s just what both parties decided was in their best interest.”
True enough. It’s nothing personal, just business. I know that, and am not trying to take sides. I just personally still find it weird at how the whole thing ended.

“Newsflash, Dater: Denver has no hope of a Stanley Cup, period.”
Yep. The Cup favorite wins every year so why even play the season, right

Riddle me this, Batman: How many sixth seeds have won the Cup?
Do you expect the Avs to finish better, or worse than last season? I consider them a playoff bubble team, with or without Theodore. They have a minuscule shot at the division. Barring a lengthy injury to Iginla or Kiprusoff, and assuming Edmonton’s kids don’t regress, Colorado should be duking it out with Minnesota (and perhaps Vancouver if Sundin ends up there) for third place. Not exactly a position of strength.
To answer my earlier question, zero sixth seeds have won the Cup. In the fourteen seasons since the elimination of the divisional playoffs, top seeds have won six, second seeds four, third seeds two, fourth and fifth seeds one each. The last seven Cups have been won by a first or second seed. No team other than Detroit or New Jersey has won the Cup from a position lower than the second seed.
One of the favorites may not always win, but they certainly do so most of the time.

So you’re saying there’s a chance…

So you’re saying there’s a chance…
Only if you’re Detroit or New Jersey

Newsflash, Dater: Denver has no hope of a Stanley Cup, period.
Please don’t make it sound as if a goalie is the final piece of the puzzle. To build upon that trite metaphor, the Avs have barely put all the edge pieces together.
And before whining any further over the departure of Theodore, maybe you should look up his record in second round playoff games.
