The Top 16 NHL Teams

from Dave Lozo of NHL.com,

RANK TEAM (RECORD) LAST WEEK COMMENTARY

1 N.Y. Rangers (33-12-5) 1 The Rangers are in the midst of a stretch where they are playing 36 straight games without leaving their time zone. A trip to Chicago on March 9 ends that streak.

2 Detroit (35-16-2)       2 If the Wings’ time without Jimmy Howard is extended, will Ken Holland make a deal for a goalie? Ty Conklin was yanked Saturday after allowing three first-period goals.

3 Nashville (32-17-4)  3 The Preds have a stigma of being an offensively challenged team, but at 2.76 per game, they rank 12th, two-hundredths of a point behind the San Jose Sharks.

4 Vancouver (32-15-5) 6 The Canucks’ last four games and seven of nine have gone beyond regulation. They went past 60 minutes only 7 times in their first 43 games.

WOW…  Just, wow….
I cannot imagine the wings with such a nice schedulle

How can the players vote against the reorganization of the conferences, and not feel guilty about thenselves?
Thats just lame
This kinda crap is way more influencial in “who’s in and who’s out” of the playoffs then the stupid “8 teams, 7 teams conferences” excuse

The players, especially those in the Eastern conference, don’t give a damn about anyone else. That goes true for the Wings too, I’m sure, and I’m not sure that I blame them.

I wonder if the Rangers were in the West, how they would fare. They’re playing a lot of cheesecake teams and have a crazy light travel schedule. They’re playing good hockey, but under great circumstances.

mrfluffy, I can understand players not caring about the others. Thats simply human nature in action

What I dont understand is how a professional player doesnt want balance in his game
Supposedly, they thrive in beeing “the best” at what they do
Whats the point in winning the Cup, when you have it “easier” for you?

I think anyone that ever participated on a tourney of any kind can relate to what Im saying

Just a little FYI for those who think the Players Association voted against the reorganization of divisions because they didn’t like the setup.  They voted against it because it will give them “a little” ammunition going into the next CBA.  They will vote against playing in Europe to start the season for the exact same reason.  “What’s in it for us” is their montra for the next 8 months.

Probably, but I think the realignment would have made travel easier on the west teams too.  Not as easy as it is on the east teams, but still easier.

I actually think the 8 team and 7 team conferences were also a big factor.  It’s not a coincidence that the two 7 team conferences just happened to be in the eastern US.  If you’re playing for a western team, particularly if you’ve got a long term contract, why would you be in favor of making it harder to make the playoffs?
