The Trade Talk

from Chuck Gormley at the Sporting News,
If the Penguins secure Sidney Crosby, Hossa and Jordan Staal as their core forwards, they could spread the news that Malkin is available to the highest bidder. Malkin’s price tag has never been higher, and for the right draft pick/player package, general manager Ray Shero might consider a blockbuster for the talented Russian.
The Bruins, Canucks and Canadiens are among a dozen teams who would find a way to clear cap space for Malkin. ...

Malkin’s price tag has never been higher…
After his pathetic performance in the final 8 games of the playoffs (and especially in the Finals), I’d say that’s a bit of an exaggeration.

You know these supposed articles on the Pens trading Malkin is hilarious, Geno isn’t going anywhere for at least a year, Another great example of the Liberal group think among sports reporters
They have a big group circlejerk & then go out a barf up the same shiite for their own papers

Equally amusing is the collective anxiety being exhibited by Pen’s fans as they become the last to realize it’s not practical to tie up $30M on just 4 forwards, particularly forwards who aren’t on the ice the 10 minutes or so the team is killing penalties. It’s looking less and less like Crosby and Malkin will be the Butch and Sundance(actually, more like Clyde and Bonnie, considering that standout performance in the finals) of Penguin’s fan’s dreams.

What Bob S said…in spades!
Under the new CBA, getting the second/first pick a couple of years in a row is, indeeed, a double-edged sword. Can’t wait to see how they fit Cindy, Mindy and Hoosa under their 2008-2009 salary cap.
On the other hand, the Wings have all kinds of options open to them and, even if they do nothing, they’re still the favorites to make the Finals next year.
That alone must drive the Pensblogites to tears. ![]()
In an apparent tribute to Dallas “I’ll Run You Over” Drake, the verification phrase is trouble17. I’m sure Cindy would appreciate that.

All this Pittsburgh talk is interesting if nothing else! For sure if the stories are true that they have pitched Hossa a deal in the neighborhood of 7 yrs and $50 M, with Crosby signed and needing to sign Malkin, Staal and Fleury, obviously there isn’t room for everyone. My opionion is that they can’t in good conscience pay Malkin more than Sid, I also wouldn’t sign Hossa for 7 years @ 50 mil. However if that is the direction they go and Malkin isn’t willing to buy into the hometown deal it will make for quite the soap opera! From the article above, if I were LA, I’d be throwing their two 1st’s in the face of Shero to try and pry Malkin. He’d be a nice Centrepiece in LaLa Land!
