from Mike Heika at Dallas Stars Blog,
Marty Turco was quite upset with himself. When asked what he was thinking at the time, he replied:
“I really didn’t know what I was thinking. Generally, I watch them (the opposition) and let them dictate, but I’m on my backhand at that particular time of the game, I don’t know what I was thinking.”

Maybe the Stars should’ve traded Turco to Tampa instead of Mike Smith since Melrose was all over him (ew…) for the past several years.

We were watching the start of the DAL game last night and I noted to my wife “Turco’s done”. She asked what I meant, and I said “Something’s not right with him, and I don’t mean physically. His career is in jeopardy right now, he’s just awful”. He straightened out slowly later on (including the one crazy save they highlightedn on HNIC), but then had the brain fart again as you see above. He just couldn’t help himself…
You could see it. He was making really weird puck-handling decisions the whole first period. I’ve seen Turco since back in college, and in Kalamazoo of the old IHL. I saw him grow and develop. Turco now bears no resemblance to the then-dominant goalie.
I know for the past couple years Wings fans have joked that Datsyuk is inside Turco’s head. I think maybe he’s not the only one right now. This puckhandling fetish of his seems to have completely taken over his game. Maybe everyone heaped too much praise on his puck-control game?
Islander fans beware—this may be what you have to look forward to with Dipietro if he doesn’t get over himself and his puckhandling obsession.
It’s sad though. Watching Marty right now reminds me of watching the last days of forrmer-Cap and Bruin keeper Jim Carrey. It’s like watching a death spiral…
