Theodore To Avs

via Sportsnet,
The Montreal Canadiens have sent goaltender Jose Theodore to the Colorado Avalanche for goalie David Aebischer, Sportsnet has learned.
update 8:18pm, from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail,
Presumably, Avalanche general manager Pierre Lacroix thinks he can catch lightning in a bottle twice — and that in a different environment, Theodore can get his game, and career, back on track. The 29-year-old Theodore won the 2002 Hart Trophy as the NHL’s most valuable player, but he has not been able to duplicate that performance ever since.

I agree, are they going to go with Budaj until Theodore gets healthy, which might be 3 to 4 weeks away?

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll take Theo over Aebischer on any day of the week with all things being equal! Maybe I’m not seeing the big picture that Lecroix is seeing right now. I’ll leave it to Pierre, he’s the guy who has always got the job done for us, but I’m still a little bewildered!

Oh boy, the divealanche boys are going to have fun with this one. They are probably working on it right now.

I agree with you guys. I’m a Wings fan, but even I think this was a bizarre move, especially after the Olympics the two Swiss goalies had.
It could really payoff though, if Theo returns at least somewhat to form with a better team in front of him.

That’s a stunner. Which Lacroix does routinely. I’ll have to ask my Avs fan friends what they think of it.

Theo had one fantastic year, while Roy had several. Big difference. Theo has issues off the ice that Roy never had, at least until the end of his career.
Bog Gainey made a bad move in signing Theo to a long contract, but he kinda made up for it now, even if Theo plays well again. His head could no longer handle the pressure here.
Lacroix has made mostly great gambles, but I don’t think this one will work as well as he’s betting.

I hear alot of laughing at the Avs around the league. All I can say from a Wings fan perspective is Thank You Lacroix. We wont have to worry about you guys much this year

As an Avs fan I question this move right now! I don’t get trading your #1 guy for a guy who’s going to be out for the next 3 to 5 weeks. I just don’t see Theo being ready for the playoffs!
