There Is Only One Dale Hunter

This morning I noted that “On this date back in 1998, Dale Hunter had three helpers and reached the 1,000 point plateau, becoming the first - and still only - player in NHL history with 1,000 points and 3,000 PIMs in a career.”
Maruk commented that Huntsy may be the only member to ever enter that exclusive club, and while you never say never… he’s probably right. A quick glance at the active Top 100 in points and PIMs makes you realize that it’s unlikely anyone currently playing is going to reach the double milestone, but let’s take a look at just how unlikely.

I imagine Pierre Turgeon hopes so.
Glorifying a player who spent the equivalent of nearly three-quarters of a season(!) in the penalty box is a mystery to me. I get that fans love tough, character guys--but Hunter seemed decidedly lacking on the second part. A dirty, dirty player. Apparently not the cleanest of coaches either, if his multiple suspensions are any indication. I haven’t heard of one in a couple years though. Perhaps he’s mellowing.
If I had to make a list of players I’m happy don’t have their name on the Cup, Hunter’s would be right up there.
