These UFA Signings Look Good

from Sam McCaig of The Hockey News,
Here are five UFA contracts that should work out well for the player’s new team:
Mikael Samuelsson, Vancouver (3 years, $7.5 million)
For $2.5 million per season, the Canucks have added a two-way winger with a lethal, heavy shot. He loves to shoot the puck and has quick, accurate release....Hal Gill, Montreal (2 years, $4.5 million)
A 6-foot-7 defenseman who has some mobility, plays physical and is a penalty-killing demon. All for the low, low price of $2.25 million per season. That’s pretty good bang for the buck, as long as Habs fans don’t look at the gargantuan Gill and start upsizing their expectations....

a “mobile” hal gill?
an “accurate” sammy?
wow. has this guy watched a hockey game before?

Well ... if “accurate” means “in a generally forward direction” then I’ll buy it. He does have a very hard shot, though.

The others were Khabibulin, Craig Anderson, and the Sedins (even though he admits they don’t really count he put them on his list anyway). Everything in the Northwest.

ALMOST everything in the Northwest. I overlooked the monstrous Hal Gill.

As a Wings fan, I don’t know how many times I yelled at the TV when Sammy took incredibly inaccurate shots. Not only is the shot off the mark way too often, his shot selection is very poor.

Accurate release? WTF? If by accurate you mean “hits the glass and his teammates with everyshot”, then you are correct. Otherwise, I agree with the hahahahahahahahahah.

What an odd article. He claims that Khabibulin is a good signing, but in his explanation of it, he insinuates that Khaby is only good in his contract years. So it was good for Edmonton to sign him to a multi-year contract?

Well, Sammy’s release is accurate. He generally makes contact with the puck when shooting…

The only “two way” game Samuelsson has is when he turns the puck over and the other team takes it the other way.

Surprise Gaborik or Gionta are not here!
