from Evanka Osmak of Sportsnet,
I had the unbelievable fortune of traveling to Kandahar last week to visit our troops. I was part of a larger group, Team Canada, made up of former NHL’ers, the musical group Glass Tiger and several others that made the journey. I left with nervousness and trepidation and returned one week later with a new appreciation and respect for our military. Not only are they fighting for peace in a war-ravaged country, but also trying to fight Tiger Williams in the rink! That alone is an accomplishment.
Our mission for the trip: boost morale. We did this by playing hockey, music and simply talking with the troops. It may have been one of the easiest, yet most difficult, jobs I’ve ever done.
