Thinking Of A Cheechoo Trade

from Spector’s Blog at Fox Sports,
Please note that the following is merely just speculation on my part and isn’t based on any reports I’ve read or heard. It’s merely based on a discussion I recently had with a friend of mine, who suggested the possibility of the Sharks trading Jonathan Cheechoo to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Here’s the basis of his opinion:
• Cheechoo isn’t producing the numbers he once did when he was on the Thornton line
• The Sharks obviously aren’t hurting because of his drop in production, and I think he may have missed the last game or more…not sure though
• Cheechoo eats up 3.5 million per

But why would pittsburgh want him? If he can’t score on with thornton setting him up, why could he score with crosby?
duh. not every player has the same chemistry. Thornton is slow, plodding, sits on the periphery, demands the puck on his stick and hasnt even played with Cheechoo consistently over the past 2 seasons.
Crosby is way faster, more dynamic and has the ability to create without the puck.
would it work? not necessarily but its not as narrow in scope as “one star doesnt work - THEN ALL STARS DONT WORK”

I’m not sold on the idea. Cheechoo may not be scoring many goals, but he’s been grinding it out and working ridiculously hard. Is that worth 3.5 million? Maybe not. But the positive influence he has in the locker room along with his strong worth ethic has earned him a different role on this team. With the team playing the way it is, I wouldn’t change the locker room one bit. In my opinion, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
