from Empty Netters,
...a Penguins fan who was hit by a puck during the team’s home opener wrote in to give us an update on his health.
I was the guy that was hit with the puck in A 27 Row B at the 3:28 mark of the first period. Just to be clear, I WAS paying attention. Have you ever sat down that low? You can’t see a damn thing…
After receiving medical attention for my bleeding head, I returned to the game for the second period. In a very classy move by the Devils, one of their trainers handed me a Reebok Devils hat, signed by all of the scratched players that evening.

Years ago I went to a Flyers-Blackhawks game at the United Center with my brother, his wife, and our grandmother. We had club-level seats behind one of the nets, and just as I finished advising everyone to watch out for deflected pucks, sure enough Chris Chelios fired a shot at the end of warmups that came up and hit the guy three seats down from my grandma right in the chest.
He hunched over, picked up the puck, and as an usher asked if he was OK, he clutched the puck to his chest saying, “I think… I need…. this autographed!”
