Tippett Fired In Dallas

via TSN,

The Dallas Stars have fired head coach Dave Tippett.

added 5:12pm, from TSN with the same link,

While no successor has been named, sources say the Stars have asked for permission to talk to former Los Angeles Kings, Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks coach Marc Crawford. All signs point towards Crawford taking over for Tippet, however that remains unconfirmed at this point.

added 5:35pm, Dallas fans start to respond to firing and possible hire.

added 9:06pm,via Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News,

I’ve talked to new Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk and he has issued an official ``no comment.’’

He said he is not ready to talk about anything at this time.

Because I have to confirm these things through direct sources, and because Dave Tippett is not returning phone calls, that’s all I can say at this time. I do not have official confirmation yet.

Wings fans everywhere would be elated with a Crawford hire.

CBC was constantly pointing out how much he seemed to be itching to get back in the saddle during this season’s broadcasts.

So Brett Hull and Dave Jackson hire Sean Avery, screw up the team, and Tippett takes the fall with them.
He is a good coach.

Enjoy the thuggery, Dallas!

I would imagine that Tippett finds another job real quickly.  It wouldn’t surprise me if Florida goes after him (if they find a new owner) and it wouldn’t surprise me if he turned them down...Calgary perhaps?  Dave coaches the Western Conference style of play pretty well (making the playoffs 9 out 10 years in Dallas) and he and Iggy could do some damage I fear…

This is very annoying.  Dallas is the team I get to see the most of and they have a decent group of likeable players and some grit that tends not to cross the thuggery line.  Ott goes too far, pretty often, but not in the same way as we’re accustomed to seeing from Crawford teams.

Guess I’ll have to get Center Ice next year, after all, to watch decent hockey on non-Wings nights.
