from David Shoalts of the Globe and Mail,
An army of lawyers will be piling up the billable hours in the coming weeks, as all sides in the fight over the Phoenix Coyotes prepare their battle plans for the hearing and sale set for Sept. 10 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
No one connected with the major combatants – the NHL, the City of Glendale, bidder Jim Balsillie and current Coyotes majority owner Jerry Moyes – wanted to talk about their plans yesterday, but the major issues are hardly a secret.
When Judge Redfield T. Baum holds a scheduling hearing next Tuesday to set dates for the filing of various arguments and objections, as well as examinations for discovery, Balsillie’s lawyers are expected to ask for the right to grill NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly in advance of the franchise’s sale.
