And yet since the Emery controversy, followed by his subsequent public apology and private meeting with teammates, the Senators have looked very much, well, distracted.
How else to explain their composure during back-to-back losses to the Washington Capitals in which they gave up a mind-boggling 14 goals.
“I don’t really think it [distracted us],” Paddock said. “There’s all kinds of stuff that goes on that can or can’t affect a team. Things that go on all the time that no one talks about when you’re winning.”
