from Jeff Marek of Upon Further Review at CBC,
You can pretty well take it to the bank that Tampa Bay’s Steven Stamkos will be a standout (the surrounding cast he has to work with pretty well guarantees that fact) and is easily the front-runner in the early race for the Calder trophy.
But who else?
I’m putting my money on Phoenix’s Kyle Turris winning the Calder and playing as a second-line centre behind Ollie Jokinen, not unlike the role Stamkos will occupy playing below Vincent Lecavalier.
more rookies to watch…

I’ve got my money on Janne Pesonen. Simply because, he’s not really a rookie, although he is an NHL rookie.
Turris and all those other guys have all of their experience in junior hockey. Pesonen actually has real professional hockey experience. Obviously the Elite League isn’t exactly the NHL, but its better than juniors, and i’d say it is better than the AHL as well, and Janne Pesonen is the BEST player in the Elite League, so I’m expecting big things from him. Not right out of the gate, but give him a month or so to get used to the NHL and he’ll be a top line winger I’m betting.
