Top Ten Players Of The Playoffs

from John Grigg of The Hockey News,
In a nod to the great post-season that was, we’re listing our 10 best players of the playoffs. As per usual, we like to avoid repetition, so there can only be one player per team, which means 10 of the 16 qualifiers are represented.
10. Zach Parise, LW, New Jersey
The Devils fell to the Hurricanes in seven games, but Parise did all he could to stop it from happening. His modest stat line – three goals and six points, including a power play goal and a game-winning marker – does not do his dynamic play justice. His 19-plus minutes of ice time per game also led New Jersey forwards far and away.9. Claude Giroux, RW, Philadelphia
He played 42 regular season games for the Flyers this year, but Giroux’s coming-out party came during the playoffs. The shifty speedster led his team in scoring with two goals and five points in six opening-round games versus the Penguins. And despite his youth, Giroux, 21, proved himself to be a more than capable penalty-killer and was counted on in that role throughout the series.

cs6687, do remember the author said only one player per team.

Claude Giroux is in the top 10 & Not Sid
Cam Ward who the Pens Raped is in the Top 10 & Sid Isn’t
I have a Sneaking suspicion that this MORON is a Flyer Fan
Claude Giroux REALLY ????????

Umm Paul Giroux was used & Abused by The Stall Line & Since when do you pare it down to 1 Player for team & Cam Ward was Brutalized by the Pens

The one player from one team “rule” is the dumbest stipulation to a ranking or list I’ve ever read.

& I think the Job Zetterberg did on Sid was great But he was Not Better than Geno
& I think with what Happened to Lidstrom & What he went through He Ought to been in the top 10 also
Osgood was also very Good too

That’s actually a good thing. Otherwise there would be Crosby, Malkin and eight Red Wings despite the finals humiliation.

That seems a pretty fair list.
Even with a “one player per team” stipulation, how could he not pick Getzlaf? He was tremendous and played insane minutes for a forward - and was very effective playing those minutes, too. He was outstanding.
Giroux is a bitt odd, but I didn’t see very many of the Eastern conference games, so I can’t really judge Philly all that well.

Baroque Giroux is Going to be a Good to Very Good Player, But even with the One Player One team stipulation he doesn’t deserve to be on the list, What do you as a Wings fan think of how Lidstrom Played?? I think considering what happened to him & he helped Ztterberg shut Sid down I think he ought to be in the top 10 too

Hard to nominate Lids for many as he’s very “unspectacular” and not noticeable when he plays well… if that makes sense. Calm, cool & collected doesn’t turn heads in general.
Makes my blood boil, but agreed Getz should have been on that list somewhere.

It’s hard for me to say, because I would put Lidstrom in every top ten list since he is my favorite player. Still, even as good as he was, I’m not sure the I would put him on the list (assuming one player per team) over Zetterberg. If for no other reason than Zetterberg had a worse regular season than he was expecting, so he could elevate his game in the playoffs - but Lidstrom just played very well the entire time.
He should get bonus points for being speared in the man region, though.

As impotant as Hiller was, Getzlaf was almost impossible to handle. What a player.
(I can see why Burke didn’t trade him in the Pronger deal - I heard rumours that he was asked about by Edmonton.)

Yes, I always wonder why people underestimate or fail to recognize Ryan Getzlaf. He made Thornton and Marleau look like minor leaguers and almost dispatched the mighty Red Wings with little offensive support. The Anaheim defence and Hiller had to keep the games close, which they did for the most part, but it was all Getzlaf offensively.

Thank you for some of you who noticed the absence of Getzlaf in the article. I really don’t think he gets enough accolades for the kind of player he is.
Hiller played great but The Wings solved him (compliments to their depth). And they deserved the win, but when asked how to solve Getzlaf, the only response was to hopefully “tire him out”...

Hossa to Anaheim Getzlaf to redwings..wouldn’t that be good??.
Go Redwings

West coast teams always get short shrift from the msm. Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty never get much mention, either. At least Anaheim has a recent Cup win and San Jose has perrenial “contender that chokes” story potential, so they get a little bit more than nothing in terms of awareness.

Wow. How does Crosby not even make the top 10? Apparently, a monster series against Washington and the second highest point total in the playoffs doesn’t mean much. Instead, the overrated Zetterburg gets number one? I’m baffled.
