‘Tough Guy’ Caps Fan Gets Into It With Tortorella

from Larry Brooks of the NY Post,

John Tortorella faces disciplinary action from the NHL after throwing a water bottle from the Rangers’ bench into the stands at 6:33 of the third period of last night’s Game 5, 4-0 defeat to the Caps.

The head coach, who would not answer questions about the incident, could be suspended by commissioner Gary Bettman for tomorrow afternoon’s Game 6 at the Garden. The Rangers’ public relations representative threatened to end last night’s postgame press conference if questions on the subject continued.

Tortorella, who may have thought he had been doused by a beer or spat upon during a television timeout, wheeled toward the stands and threw a bottle over the high glass protecting the bench.

continued and Puck Daddy has some video of the water bottle toss.

Look… you scalp a ticket to Jay Feaster, and that’s what happens.

Of course the Rangers followed that up with their typical class as one of the players through their Gatorade squeeze bottle into the stands and hit a lady about 5 rows in front of me right in the noggin.

if i am NHL i would be worried about this. this culture has been devolping around the season and into the playoffs of disgust of the product and horrible job refs have done all season.

If I’m not mistaken, beer was ultimately dumped on John Tortorella (though video evidence is still needed). If that’s dissatisfaction of the refs and disgust of the product, that’s a peculiarly funny way to show it.

It appears as if Torts started it by throwing a water bottle that struck a woman who is a season ticket holder.  The reaction from the crowd, it appears, was in reaction to Torts starting it.  I suspect he’ll hear from Colin Campbell for this one.  Hmm….no Avery, but the coach fills the breach.  Totally insane if he can’t take heckling from the crowd—he should ignore it completely.

Torts can kick his own players’ asses in their sleep.  What chance does this guy think he has against Torts one-on-one?

Mike Babcock got hit by a beer bottle in Columbus.
I think this kind of fan behavior is way out of line.
