from Spector’s,
Chris Foster (LA Times) reports Kings GM Dean Lombardi has plenty of available cap space to make some moves this season but those potential moves could depend on how the club performs over the next couple of months. Foster suggests the Kings need a top-line scorer and a legitimate number one goaltender and while noting neither becomes available very often anything is possible.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Cue the Marian Gaborik and Nikolai Khabibulin to LA rumors! Meanwhile Lombardi will likely be patient and keep a close eye on the market.

Kovalchuk would give the Kings the top-line sniper they lack, and they have a surplus of prospects which Atlanta wants. They won’t acquire a number one goalie because Ersberg will hold the fort until Bernier or another goalie in the minors can make the jump to the NHL. Gaborik is hurt too much and while a splendid player, he is not worth the risk. Khabibulin, on the other hand, should be acquired short-term and then dealt to a playoff team at the trade deadline for picks.

Kukla’s Korner is always a free service for readers, but it costs some money to maintain. If you’re ever in a position to donate a few dollars to help out, we’d be very appreciative.

I dont see LA making any major moves either considering the track they’re on. Kovalchuk could do worse than to sign in LA next season. They could get dangerous very fast.
