Trashing Olli

From Brian Biggane at the Palm Beach Post,

The word was out about Olli Jokinen. And it wasn’t good.

One league executive, who team was rumored to be among those pursuing Jokinen, called the former Panthers center “a dog” late Friday night and said any talk of sincere interest on the part of his team was “a plant.”

An unnamed exec huh? Sure thing. This unknown person must have yelled it out to the crowd for someone like Brian Biggane to hear it. But it’s Florida, you really can’t expect quality hockey journalism, can you?

You know, given that the Coyotes sent two lynchpin defencemen to Florida for Jokinen, somebody ought to tell the “dog” that the Coyotes might be evenly-matched with the Panthers at this point...but there is the less humidity part to sell him on Phoenix…

Two lynchpin defencemen? OK, Ballard’s got potential but the ‘Yotes tried unsuccessfully for two years to dump Boynton.

The Coyotes are heading in a more positive direction than the Panthers. Last season they were in the playoff chase until very late in the season and if they’d have Bryzgalov for the entire season and a little more offense they probably would’ve made it.

Given the farce that the Panthers franchise has been in this decade the best captains in NHL history on their own wouldn’t have lifted them into the playoffs. That’s how directionless the Panthers have been.

Jokinen centering Doan’s line gives the Coyotes a lethal first line, and with Bryzgalov in for a full season and the rise of their young talent they’re going to be a playoff club next season.
