Trying To Buy A Hockey Team

from Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star,

“I’ve spent well over five years on this and more millions than anyone will know,” said Balsillie, who spent an hour Thursday with writers and editors of the Toronto Star and Hamilton Spectator. “It started out as fun, but segued right into who I really am.”

Balsillie made no apologies for trying to purchase the Coyotes and move them to Hamilton through bankruptcy proceedings, after being rebuffed twice in his efforts to buy other teams.

“There was no front door to get this team here. I looked. I checked every which way. I’m so inside in every which way. I know a lot of these owners,” said Balsillie.

You’d think if he knows the other owners and has been on the inside, he’d have the common sense to know that what he’s doing is very stupid and is only going to make other owners hostile towards him.

You’d obviously be thinking wrong though.

OK, Primis: What are his other options at this point?

Josh seems to think he has a right to a team. Message he doesn’t have a right to own one. So like a thief if he can’t buy your house he tries to steal it. Don’t fool yourself, this is outright theft. The Coyotes have a 30 year lease with the City of Glendale, the only way he can steal this team to Hamilton is to fraudulently file bankruptcy to void the lease. Arizona fans and the city have stepped up to do their part for this franchise, problem is this franchise has never stepped for the city. This isn’t an issue of a failed market, this is a failed franchise that needs better ownership. So go ahead and support Balsillie and his con job, but don’t fool yourself with thinking this is his right, or Canada’s right. It is attempted theft plain and simple!

Funny - I thought it was the bankruptcy court that would determine whether the bankruptcy was fraudulent. But it seems I was wrong. It’s Tero. Huh, who knew?

Seems the NHL thinks it is fraud as well! From the Toronto Star

But the NHL goes further, accusing Moyes of “secretly” altering documents to make it appear he was in control of the team in order to work out an arrangement with billionaire Jim Balsillie to arrange a deal to sell the team through bankruptcy proceedings

.

That sounds like fraud to me!
