Turning Up The Heat On Osgood

Red Wing execs are not holding back this week about the poor play of Chris Osgood.

With 31 games remaining in the regular season, general manager Ken Holland said it’s vital for Osgood to step up his play—right away.

“Chris Osgood is not even close to where he was last year, but history has shown he’s been able to raise his game,” Holland said. “We need Chris to get his game back—and now.”

Who knew that Dave Dye at the Detroit Newsis an “A2Y” fan:

The Wings are winning at a good pace (33-11-7)—everyone should have it so bad—but they’re not doing it in the typical championship fashion.

For now, they’re trying to buy time, probably because it’s easier than buying a goalie.

“It’s not the way we want to win,” captain Nicklas Lidstrom said. “Our penalty kill isn’t where we want it to be. Goals-against is another area we have to work on. By getting wins, we can still work on that.”

Work on it, and not panic.

However, this team that was so sound defensively last spring is 21st out of 30 NHL teams in goals-against (2.94) and 27th in penalty kill (77.1 percent).

Tick tock.

Nothing like pulling the trigger on both barrels at once!
Kenny’s not usually one to make comments to the media, it’s been a long time coming this year. Tell it like it is Kenny, and we don’t accept the excuse of needing a couple bounces to go your way Oz.

I would love to see Osgood, Larson, and Franzen traded for Ryan Miller of Buffalo.

That is interesting JR.

Everyone knows that Tick-Tock is up against the cap wall, and has to dump salary if he intends to keep both Hoss and Mule.

Why not try to make a move to keep Hoss and get a “quality” goaltender?

How many times have you heard an “Analyst” state that quality defense starts in net??

Let us hope that Holland is having the same ideas!

The “19” know, deep down, that this years version of the Wings pales in comparison to the dominanting play of last years team.  Absent significant improvement in defense - we are all expecting an early playoff exit; and EVERYONE is pointing the finger at Ozzie.

Tick-Tock

Almost all 19 of us are in panic mode…

Don’t forget that Holland and Babcock are good…very good.
Do you not think they know exactly what is going on?

I can tell you:
They are keeping their powder dry until the last 20 games of the season.
Then Babs will hold a team meeting.
And then Babs will hold a bag skate.
And the regular season will have officially come to an end.

You will see the Red Wings play real defense.

Ozzie will look like a star.

You just watch.

It should be noted however, that Holland isn’t of a mind to pursue a goaltender, from Dave Waddell at the Windsor Star:

Holland agreed the solution is going to come from either the Wings’ current goalies.

“I don’t see us being active (in trade market),” Holland said.

Oh for the pre-CBA days!!

Do you really need a #1 goalie, though?  I have Conklin on my Fantasy keeper team, and he’s looked fine by the numbers; how’s he been by your eyes?
