Two Minutes For Interference On McCreary

Bill McCreary is one of the better refs in the NHL and things like this do happen at times, but not very often.

Not sure what he was doing there? I started reffing last year and the only time you’re into “no mans land” during play is when your backing up to the boards after dropping the puck. On the rare occasion I do get tangled up in the play and can’t evade without favoring a side, I just stop dead and let the players adjust.

In all fairness, it’s amazing things like this don’t happen more often.  In general the refs do great work.

That said, one got in the way of what would have been a Martin Erat breakaway last night against Carolina, so screw ‘em!

Yeah, it seemed like McCreary actually made it worse by trying to get up right away.

Anyway, both teams that had a player obstructed by an on-ice official (Washington and Nashville) ended up winning, so I guess these incidents didn’t effect the outcomes.

Maybe they didn’t affect the outcome, but the Jackets-Caps game did go to OT, giving the Jackets a point…

I remember a few years ago at a Vancouver/Wings game, Don Van Massenhoven assisted on the Canucks last-minute game-tying goal.  Vancouver ended up winning in OT.  To this day, I can’t stand Van Massenhoven.  Of course, he has given me more and more reasons to dispise him with every game he refs…
