from Bill Clement at NBC Sports,
On July 1 the NHL’s shopping spree for unrestricted free agents begins and the big-ticket items – mega stars like Jaromir Jagr, Marian Hossa and Mats Sundin—will draw lucrative deals. But there will be some lesser names in the free-agent pool whose value to their teams will make their new salaries seem very cost effective. Here are my top six players who could fall into that category.

I’d love to see the Wings bring Avery back into the fold. I don’t think he’s exactly perfect for the chemistry in our locker room, but he’s been a Wing before and both sides know each other well. If Uncle Mike can wrangle Mac, he can wrangle Avery. And oh what an asset he would be for our team that will lose a fair amount of grit when Drake retires and Mac begins his slide off the bubble (though I hate to say its true).

Kukla’s Korner is always a free service for readers, but it costs some money to maintain. If you’re ever in a position to donate a few dollars to help out, we’d be very appreciative.

Avery’s supposedly asking for at least $3.5mil a year. How exactly is that a bargain?
