Versus Watched

from Versus via Sports Business Daily,

Versus earned a 0.4 cable Nielsen rating for Monday night’s Rangers-Penguins game, making it the most-watched NHL regular-season telecast ever for the net and the biggest Monday 7:00-9:45pm ET slot ever outside of the NHL playoffs and Tour de France. Versus earned a 0.9 in N.Y., its highest ever for that market, and a 6.1 in Pittsburgh.

0.9 in NY and 6.1 in Pitt?? Why such a large difference?

The NHL need a fuller commitment from Versus, I never see replays of games. They replay Bull Riding all weekend long. Or are there really that many Bull Riding events? Either way, Versus is the Bull Riding event kings. They OWN that event!

When is that highlight show supposed to start? Before the playoffs?

I think Versus is on a digital sports tier on cable companies in NYC meaning much fewer folks have the opportunity to watch it in NYC than in Pitt. that would be the discrepancy.

Just curious- what was the avg. ratings for games when they were on ESPN?  How well does FSN do in the Detroit area? How well do the NBC games on the weekend do?

millsz, the NBC ratings have been around a 1, not much better than the latest Versus rating.
Not sure about the ESPN ratings and Fox Sport in Detroit, the ratings are way down.  Maybe it is that old commercial of the guy smelling Drapers gloves…

ESPN never drew better than an 0.5 with the NHL, and ESPN2 was always around an 0.2, so if VERSUS can average 0.4 for a year, it would be seen as a worthwhile investment.

That’s a great rating for Versus. Bettman and his people are praying that Pittsburgh gets through at least 2 rounds.

I think a perfect playoffs ratings wise would have to include NYR, Pens, Sabres, Wild and Detroit.  All 5 would garantee good playoff ratings.
