Sawada has a broken nose and separated shoulder according to Kypreos.

Ignoring that the Bruins should be uniquely aware of the dangers of exactly this hit, the worst thing about it is that Paille decided to throw this cheapshot while his team was up 4-1.

Couldn’t agree more. This is eerily similar to Cooke on Savard, if the league does not come down hard on this, it is time to get rid of rule 48 and try again because if that does not constitute a lateral blindside hit, then I don’t know what does.

The penalty was changed to a game misconduct

Or I mean it was changed from a match penalty to a game misconduct.

It was definitely a blindside hit…but I don’t think it was a headshot. Shoulder-to-shoulder with incidental contact to the head because he hit him so damn hard.

Considering how the game started, I’m not surprised to see a cheap shot like this. I must have missed what happened between these two clubs to go at each other like this.

I’m a lifelong Bruins fan, and I think he’s looking at 5+ games. He might get less based on the fact that he doesn’t have a history of delivering these types of hits, but he definitely deserves a suspension. Sawada was in rough shape leaving the ice last night. Bottom line: that kind of hitting doesn’t need to happen.
